Are You Red Carpet Ready

The season has begun; you can’t turn on the television or pick up a magazine in the grocery check-out line without a mention of the obligatory Red Carpet.  It is a rite of passage for every guest to dodge (no pun intended) the paparazzi along the entrance at every award show or charity event.  The color red in China symbolizes prosperity and joy, which happens to be the perfect combination when trying to figure out what you would wear on a Red Carpet.

Valley residents and local fashionistas have been asking themselves this question for the past 17 years, because the local chapter of the Arthritis Foundation has had the covenant pleasure of being the only ‘officially sanctioned’ viewing party in the Valley.  The Academy of Motion Pictures and Arts awards 51 charities across the nation this honor, and for over a decade this event has grown along with the red carpet to be the #1 Oscar Night America charity event in the country.

Everyone can relate to strutting down the red carpet, with the camera flashes and microphones all while trying not to trip up while walking with perfect posture and big smile.

But for so many, this simple task can be a difficult one.  Arthritis affects over 50 million people in the United States and over 300,000 of them are children.  They have Juvenile Arthritis or a related disease; that’s more than juvenile diabetes, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy combined.  In Arizona alone, over 6,000 kids are supported by the Arthritis Foundation through educational programs, social activities and support for their families.  Impacting lives throughout our state for both adults and children, this is their mission.
