Consider this: The average visit to the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) lasts three hours and 48 minutes, almost twice that of museums nationwide.
Phoenix nonprofit Gabriel’s Angels is what you would call a well-oiled machine. The animal-assisted behavioral therapy agency has grown through much hard work, publicity and community outreach to serve over 13,000 at-risk children annually, with an operating budget just shy of one million dollars.
It looks like any other playground: sandbox, jungle gym, a row of trikes against the wall, awaiting recess. But this facility, near the Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, is a place for kids age eight and under to escape the horrors of abuse, neglect and other domestic crises.
